Are your candles handmade?
Yes! Every single candle is hand-poured in small batches in our Romanian studio. From blending the high-quality fragrance oils to centering the wicks and hand-finishing our sculptural pieces (like the FRESCA or TOTEMA collections), each item is crafted with personal attention to detail. This artisanal process ensures that every candle you receive is unique.
What is the difference between your various wax collections?
We offer a curated selection of wax blends to suit different needs. Our AUREA collection features 100% natural beeswax, while the SCULPTURA line utilizes a premium coconut and olive blend designed for clean burning and intricate detail.
What about other additives?
We keep our ingredients simple, safe, and high-quality.
Our Coconut candles are made with:
- 100% natural coconut and olive wax blend
- phthalate-free, paraben-free and CMR-free fragrance oils
- eco-friendly, non-toxic candle dyes
- cotton wicks.
Our Beeswax candles are made with:
- 100% natural beeswax
- cotton wicks.
We don’t use paraffin, parabens, or harmful additives - just what’s needed for a beautiful, clean-burning candle.

What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?
Essential oils are natural extracts derived from plants - flowers, leaves, bark, or roots - through processes like steam distillation or cold pressing. They’re pure and aromatic but also delicate, expensive, and sometimes unstable at high temperatures (like a burning candle).
Fragrance oils, on the other hand, are either fully synthetic or a blend of natural and synthetic ingredients (including essential oil components). They’re specifically formulated to be safe, stable, and effective in products like candles, soaps, sprays, and diffusers.
What oils do you use to scent your candles?
We use high-quality fragrance oils that are safe, phthalate-free, paraben-free and enriched with essential oil components. Here's why:
- Better Scent Throw: Fragrance oils are designed for candles, offering a stronger, longer-lasting aroma when burned.
- More Stable: Unlike essential oils, they hold up better to heat, making them ideal for consistent performance.
- Safety First: We carefully review each fragrance's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to ensure it's free of harmful ingredients.
- More Accessible: Essential oils are delicate and costly—better suited for diffusion or topical use than open-flame burning.
In short, fragrance oils give you the best of both worlds: beautiful scent and safe, reliable performance.
What is the white film on my beeswax candle?
That soft, white coating is called beeswax bloom, and it’s completely natural. It happens when the natural oils in pure beeswax rise to the surface and form a light, powdery film.
Bloom is a sign of 100% pure, high-quality beeswax - not a flaw! It’s safe, and it won’t affect how your candle burns. In fact, many candle lovers see it as a mark of authenticity.
You can leave it as is, or gently buff it away with a soft cloth if you prefer a polished look.
Do all of your candles have wicks?
Most of our candles, including our beeswax and scented varieties, come with a wick for traditional burning. However, the TOTEMA collection consists of decorative wickless wax figurines designed exclusively as ornamental objects.
How should I choose a scent?
We categorize our fragrances into distinct profiles - ranging from Smoky and Woody to Gourmand and Citrus - to help you find your perfect match. If you are looking for a specific mood, you can also shop by our "Sentimental" edits, such as CALMA for relaxation or ENERGIA for focus.
Do you offer scent samples?
If you’re unsure which fragrance to choose, we recommend starting with our EXPLORA Scent Discovery Kits, which allow you to experience a variety of our scent profiles before committing to a full-sized candle.
Candle Care & Safety
How do I get the best burn out of my candle?
To ensure an even burn, always trim the wick to about 5mm before lighting.
Extinguish the candle if the wax pool nears the outer edge. A breach in the wall will cause the wax to leak rapidly, drastically reducing the total burn time.
For vessel candles, allow the wax to melt across the entire surface during the first burn to prevent "tunneling."
Are the hand-painted candles safe to burn?
Yes. Our FRESCA collection features hand-painted details using materials specifically chosen to be safe for use on candles. As with all sculptural candles, we recommend placing them on a heat-resistant tray to catch any dripping wax.
How should I store my candles?
Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve their color, scent, and structural integrity - especially for our more delicate sculptural pieces.
Warnings
- Heat-Resistant Base: Place the candle on a tray or plate to collect any wax that may drip due to its irregular shape.
- First Burn: Keep the candle lit until a small "pool" of wax forms around the wick; this helps ensure a more even burn.
- Trim the Wick: Before each lighting, trim the wick to 5 - 10 mm to prevent an oversized flame, smoke, or accelerated consumption.
- Recommended burn session: Burn time per session is determined by the candle's width. For candles with a smaller diameter, keep burn sessions shorter to maintain the structure of the wax wall.

What is the delivery time?

What is the return policy?
At Happy Candles, we strive for perfection in every hand-poured piece. However, because our products are often made to order, our return policy follows specific guidelines:
- Custom-Made Products: Most of our candles are manufactured upon request based on your specific choices of Color and/or Fragrance Oil. According to Romanian law (OUG no. 34/2014), these personalized items are non-refundable, unless there is an error with the order (e.g., you received the wrong item).
- Right of Withdrawal: For non-personalized items, you have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 calendar days of receiving your package, without providing a reason.
- Condition of Returns: To be eligible for a return, products must be in their original, intact packaging, unused, and showing no signs of damage or wear. They must be in a suitable condition for resale.
- Shipping Costs: The customer is responsible for the direct cost of returning the products. If the return is due to our error (e.g., wrong product sent), we will cover the return shipping costs.
- Refunds: Once we receive and inspect the returned items, we will refund the amount (excluding initial shipping costs) within a maximum of 14 days, using the same payment method you used for the original transaction.
How do I initiate a return?
If you wish to return an eligible item, please inform us of your decision through an unequivocal statement sent via email to contact@happycandles.ro within the 14-day window.
Note: Please ensure the product is securely packaged. You are responsible for the integrity of the product until it reaches our studio.
Are any purchases final sale?
Yes. We are unable to accept returns on items that are made to order based on your specific choices of color and scent.
Since these candles are crafted specifically to match your individual preferences, they are considered personalized goods and are non-refundable under current regulations (OUG 34/2014), unless they arrive damaged or do not match your original order.
When will I get my order?
We work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. As soon as your order leaves our studio, you will receive an email with all the necessary tracking information.
